What is Reflexology?
-
Western reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on complementary therapy based on the theory that specific points on the feet, lower legs, hands and face correspond to different areas of the body.
Through skilled precise pressure, reflexology encourages relaxation, helps ease stress and tension, and supports overall well-being.
It can be enjoyed on its own or alongside conventional healthcare.
-
Illness, stress, and injury can create imbalances within the body, preventing vital systems from functioning optimally.
Reflexologists are trained to detect subtle changes and areas of imbalance within the feet, hands and face. By working gently and precisely on specific reflexes and zones, we support areas where circulation and responsiveness may have become restricted or sluggish.
By sending calming signals to the nervous system, it encourages the body’s own healing response to emerge, supporting a return towards balance, greater wellbeing, stress regulation, tension and pain relief.
-
People choose Western reflexology for many reasons. Some people seek a peaceful pause from the demands of everyday life, while others appreciate its focused hands-on approach as a part of caring for themselves.
Western reflexology offers dedicated one-to-one attention through gentle pressure techniques applied on mapped reflex points and zones. Treatments are tailored to the individual, creating an opportunity to unwind, feel cared for and to reconnect with their body.
For many, reflexology becomes a valued part of maintaining personal wellness and resilience.
-
Reflexology is a therapy that can be received by anyone; from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between.
However, in some cases treatment may not be advisable based on certain conditions.
Your reflexology treatments may be covered by your extended health plan. If reflexology is not included, clients can request to have it added to their coverage or ask their employer to include it in their group health insurance.
What Treatment is Best for You?
-
Foot Reflexology is a great choice for people experiencing perimenopausal symptoms, chronic pain, sleep disturbances or insomnia, grief, major life transitions, nervous system dysregulation, PTSD, anxiety, neuropathy and digestive concerns.
Foot Reflexology is a deeply grounding, whole-body treatment that supports relaxation, restores balance, and encourages the body's natural healing processes.
Facial Reflexology is an excellent choice for people experiencing conditions affecting the face and head, including headaches, migraines, sinus congestion, seasonal allergies, tinnitus, Bell's palsy, bruxism (jaw pain caused by clenching or grinding the teeth) and facial muscle tension.
It can also be deeply beneficial for managing stress and calming an overactive mind. Emerging research is showing promising results in supporting children with ADHD and autism, although more studies are ongoing.
In addition to its therapeutic benefits, Facial Reflexology offers natural cosmetic effects by stimulating collagen production, enhancing circulation, and promoting lymphatic drainage, helping to leave the skin looking healthier, brighter, and more radiant.
-
Reflexology, originating from Egypt, India and China, was introduced to the Western world by Dr. William Fitzgerald in the early 1900s. Applying pressure on specific body parts, Fitzgerald discovered an anesthetic effect elsewhere, leading to the mapping of pressure points across the body's 10 zones. Introducing "Zone therapy," Fitzgerald highlighted connections between reflex areas on the hands and feet and corresponding organs.
Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist, refined and popularized reflexology in the 1930s, focusing on feet due to their sensitivity. Mapping the entire body onto the feet, Ingham observed therapeutic benefits beyond pain relief, linking foot conditions to broader bodily concerns. Her work significantly shaped modern reflexology practice.
-
While Eastern and Western reflexology share the use of pressure on the feet, they developed from different traditions and are based on different approaches. Eastern forms are generally influenced by Traditional Chinese Medicine and may incorporate concepts such as meridians and the flow of Qi, often using firmer pressure or additional tools.
Western reflexology follows a different tradition. Developed from Zone Therapy and later shaped by the work of Eunice Ingham, it uses mapped reflex points and zones of the feet together with precise, rhythmic pressure techniques such as thumb-walking. Its approach is physical and methodical, with the reflex map providing a framework for how the practitioner works with the feet, hands or face.
-
At Vibrant Harmonies we practise specifically within the Western reflexology tradition. We do not incorporate meridian-based practices or energy work.
Instead, our approach uses skilled, rhythmic hands-on techniques designed to ease tension, encourage deep relaxation and leave you feeling restored and refreshed.
-
We like to begin with a personal connection. To book a treatment, simply give us a call or send us an email. This gives us an opportunity to answer any questions you may have, learn a little about what you’re looking for and find a treatment time that works for you.
We don’t use online booking—just real people, real conversations and personal care from the very beginning.
What Our Clients are Saying
I found Christelle through a friend and was so very glad our paths crossed. She gives the best reflexology treatments ever. I wasn't sleeping well and was suffering from insomnia amongst other health issues, and after a treatment from Christelle I slept like a baby. And I'm embarrassed to say, she was so darn good I actually fell asleep during the treatment and woke myself up with my snoring! Once you experience her magic your life will change for the best.

I have been a client of Christelle’s for some years, receiving reflexology, massage and facial treatments. The reflexology was the most thorough I’ve experienced and of huge calming benefit at a time of personal stress. Her massage and facials leave you feeling really relaxed and refreshed. Christelle creates a calm, peaceful atmosphere. She listens to what you need and selects the products to suit. I can confidently give her the highest of recommendations.
Marion Gilchrist
I have received hand & foot reflexology, body massage and Dr Hauschka facials from Christelle on numerous occasions. For me these therapies were such beautiful experiences, both in body and in mind. To be honest I have no words to explain these experiences that I received as they really do have to be experienced. From the moment I arrived till the moment I left I was graced by Christelle's gentleness, attentiveness and lightness.
