Specialized Reflexology for
Oncology Care, Fertility and Dementia
What is Reflexology?
-
Stress reduction is one of the key preventative measures for promoting strong health and building resilience. Reflexology is a non-invasive touch therapy based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower legs, hands and face correspond to different areas of the body.
-
Illness, stress and injury cause imbalances within the body. Vital systems become blocked, preventing the body from functioning optimally. Reflexologists are trained to detect tiny deposits and imbalances. By working on these zones and reflexes on the feet, we access areas where energy has become blocked or stagnant, creating a safe and relaxed environment for the body’s own internal healing response to restore the flow of energy and move towards a state of greater well-being.
Reflexology helps to restore balance by stimulating hypoactive reflexes and calming hyperactive reflexes.
-
However reflexology is viewed, there can be no doubt that what it does provide is a period of time for relaxation where the client has one-to-one attention and supportive touch in an empathetic listening environment. Reflexology can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health for clients.
-
Reflexology is a therapy that can be received by anyone; from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, in some cases treatment may not be advisable based on certain conditions.
Your reflexology treatments may be covered by your extended health plan. If reflexology is not included, clients can request to have it added to their coverage or ask their employer to include it in their group health insurance.
-
Reflexology, originating from Egypt, India, and China, was introduced to the Western world by Dr. William Fitzgerald in the early 1900s. Applying pressure on specific body parts, Fitzgerald discovered an anesthetic effect elsewhere, leading to the mapping of pressure points across the body's 10 zones. Introducing "Zone therapy," Fitzgerald highlighted connections between reflex areas on the hands and feet and corresponding organs.
Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist, refined and popularized reflexology in the 1930s, focusing on feet due to their sensitivity. Mapping the entire body onto the feet, Ingham observed therapeutic benefits beyond pain relief, linking foot conditions to broader bodily concerns. Her work significantly shaped modern reflexology practice.

About Christelle Gass
While working as a clinical reflexologist, I felt drawn to treating and supporting people living with cancer, fertility challenges and dementia on their health journeys. This led me to complete further advanced reflexology training in Canada related to Oncology Care, Fertility and Dementia.
Unlike Eastern Reflexology, I use a light pressure based on Western Reflexology techniques introduced by Eunice Ingham. My aim is to help my clients enter a deep relaxation state called ‘rest and digest’, where the body’s internal healing response is activated and balance is achieved. I find it very rewarding to facilitate this process and seeing anecdotal improvements in health and quality of life.
